Blogging Day 1

10.26.12

My first offical day to blog. I have been very interested in blogging for a few years now and have never really taken the time to do it. A lot of my friends have started their own blogs and I enjoy reading about their lives and what they have been doing since I saw them last but never really thought about who would actually want to read my blog if I started one.

So - with that - I guess I will just have to see who actually starts following me and reading about my life when I have the time to post something.

My most recent life change was made in June of this year, 2012. I made a big move to the Phoenix, Arizona area to work as an Assistant Community Director for university housing at Arizona State University. A lot of people asked me why I chose somewhere so far away or why ASU? The truth is that I only applied to places where I had a friend living in the area. I knew that one of my sorority sisters and her husband lived here and that I wouldn't mind being closer to them and spending some time with them when I wasn't working. After being here only 3 short months, my sorority sister and her husband moved back to the South with her family. I can't blame them since I miss my own family terribly but I do miss having them close by.

ASU is an excellent place to work and I really enjoy my job. The paperwork portion is extremely time consuming and I feel, most days, that it is the only thing I do. On other days, I get to have a little more freedom with my work and may work from my house (that is actually on campus) or be able to plan and meet with students about different programs and events they would like to see happen on our campus. I work and live on the Polytechnic campus of ASU which is very unique. Poly is the home to many CTI, engineer, and aviation majors. Our male to femal ratio is 4:1. It is a different dynamic and has been an adjustment for me.

I also work without the help of a student staff. I was recently given two Sun Devil Representative students to advise and they will become a part of my staff for the houses I oversee. ASU is a large place and Phoenix is even larger. There is so much to do and see here and I want to take it all in. I know that I may not be working here for a lengthy period of time and hope to be placed on the Tempe campus (only 30 minutes away) very soon for a different positon but I want to be sure that the move is the right choice for me before making that transition.

That is only a brief overview of what I have been up to since July 1. I have had the opportunity to visit Los Angeles twice, Las Vegas once, and gone back to Arkansas to visit twice as well. I truly miss my family and especially miss my baby brother and my boyfriend. I will see them all soon enough - again.
